DYERSBURG – The Dyer County Sheriff’s Office received an anonymous tip Thursday, March 28, 2024, which stated a student used threatening language toward others, according to a news release from Dyer County Sheriff Jeff Box.
“Our criminal investigation division followed our procedures to collaborate with school officials, school resource officers, family members, and the juvenile to establish all the related facts. After a thorough and exhaustive investigation, including cell phone data, the tip was determined to be false, and the alleged threatening language was totally unfounded. We always encourage the submission of factual tips to school officials, SROs, and the student safety app. Adults, as well as other students, have spread false/hurtful information. We ask those involved to stop engaging in this type of behavior and instead discuss the consequences of filing false reports about others with your children. As a result of the false rumors and false statements – the falsely accused student will not be present at school tomorrow (Friday, March 29). Also, we do not release names of juveniles as it is protected under the law. Thank you for partnering with us to promote a safe learning environment for all.”
