Paris, Tenn.–Long-time Henry County 911 Board Chairman John Etheridge was surprised–and “very much appreciative”–when the 911 offices were officially named “The John H. Etheridge Emergency Communications District and Emergency Management Center”.

Etheridge has served on the board since 1993, with most of that time as Chairman.

“I was blown away,” Etheridge said. “I had no idea. I was honored. I was humbled. I very much appreciated it.”

Etheridge’s family came from all over the state and country to share in the honor with him and kept the surprise. Family members, including his wife, Jane, came into the meeting room after Etheridge opened the session. During the ceremony, County Mayor John Penn Ridgeway presented a proclamation of March 25, 2024 as John H. Etheridge Day in Henry County. Etheridge already had received the County’s Loyal Patriot Award, which is the highest award that can be bestowed on a county resident.

A bronze plaque was presented which recognizes Etheridge “exceptional leadership and steadfast dedication” and his “significant contribution” to the establishment of the state-of-the-art 911 emergency center, which is located on Brewer St., in downtown Paris.
