Half Ton Of Marijuana Seized During Traffic Stop

140-drug-bust

A half-ton of marijuana, 46 pounds of psilocybin and $45,521 was seized during a traffic stop in I-40 in west Tennessee Tuesday night.

Agents from the 30th judicial district interdiction unit out of Memphis conducted a traffic stop on a sprinter van for a traffic violation on I-40 in Haywood County. During the stop, Agents developed reasonable suspicion to deploy a narcotics canine around the vehicle.

A probable cause search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of just over 1/2 TON OF MARIJUANA (1,010 lbs.), 46 POUNDS OF PSILOCYBIN (the psychoactive drug within certain types of mushrooms) and $45,521.00 in DRUG PROCEEDS.

One male is being held in the custody of Haywood Sheriff Billy Garrett, Jr. charged with delivery of a schedule I and schedule VI narcotic and awaiting bond.

It was apparent by evidence recovered from the vehicle that the suspect had left California with the drugs and had been making deliveries and collecting cash during the trip. The boxes were all labeled with different states including Tennessee with New York being the farthest away. This case is being prosecuted by The Office of the District Attorney General, 28th Judicial District, Frederick Agee.
