Union City, Tenn.–Union City High School continues to measure up among the elite.

The school was recently named a Rewards school by the State of Tennessee Department of Education after demonstrating high levels of performance and/or improvement in performance for the 2022-23 school year.

Schools earn Reward status based on their performance on the federal accountability system. An overall score of 3.1-4.0 per federal accountability calculation is required to earn the Rewards designation.

The honor marked the third time in the past five years that UCHS earned the distinction.

“Accountability measures in education from the state and federal level are at an all-time high,” UCHS Principal Jacob Cross said. “In this high-stakes climate, it is always welcome to receive recognition like this.

“Earning the distinction of a Reward school is a testament to the hard work of our students and their dedicated teachers.”

Cross received notification of the accomplishment from Commissioner of Education Lizzette Reynolds via a letter congratulating Union City High School for “exemplifying student success in achievement and growth” and applauding the school’s hard work and student accomplishments.

“These annual designations are a testament to the hard work our educators, school, and district leaders provide to students each and every day across the state,” Reynolds concluded.

UCHS will receive a banner from the state to commemorate the honor.
