Mr. Jan Darwin Black, age 75, of Stewart, Tennessee, passed away Tuesday, February 27, 2024 at Houston County Community Hospital.
He was born Tuesday, August 17, 1948, in Sycamore, Pennsylvania.
A loving son of the late Santford Hill Black and Dorothy Louise Collins Black and beloved brother to his five siblings.
Jan led a life of service.
He began his journey serving his country in the US Army as a Sergeant 1 st Class during the Vietnam War.
He used his Masters of Business Administration (MBA) and Juris Doctor (JD) degrees to serve his government.
Through his time in the VFW, Freemason, and Shriners he served his community.
He spent his retirement serving the people of Stewart County for two terms as a County Commissioner.
Jan was a lifelong student.
Always reading, always learning, and always sharing his knowledge.
What Jan lacked in patience he made up with passion. Passion for learning, life, and his family.
Jan loved his farm and he never met a plant he could not make thrive.
Jan is survived by his loving wife of 43 years: Karin Black; son: Jan Darwin Black, II (Krista); daughter: Casey Pfeifer (Logan); daughter: Kimberly Black; grandchildren: Taben Pfeifer, Rylee Black, Maisie Pfeifer, Riley Lehman, McKinley Lehman, and Britley Lehman.
Jan was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.
He will be greatly missed.
His children and grandchildren will miss his advice and hugs most of all.
