Camden, Tenn.–Camden Central High School has appointed John Ross Hudson as their new head football coach. Hailing from Paris, Hudson brings a wealth of experience to the position, having spent the past 14 years coaching at Lexington High School.

During his tenure at Lexington, Hudson served as an assistant on the defensive staff for two seasons before taking on the role of special teams coordinator for 10 seasons. In the last two seasons, he was the Tigers’ defensive coordinator.

Hudson’s decision to join Camden Central High School was driven by his familiarity with the area and the potential he saw in the talented athletes during a recent basketball game between Lexington and Camden. “Some of my Mom’s family is from the Camden area, so I’m very familiar with what that area offers. I also saw great potential after seeing some of the athletes compete on the basketball court, guys I’d like to get to come out and play football as well,” Hudson stated.

Additionally, Hudson was drawn to the strong support from the administration and community at Camden. Their unwavering backing of the football program made his decision an easy one for both he and his family. “The administration and community are great supporters of the football program. That made this decision a lot easier,” Hudson stated.

Although Camden Central competes in the 2A classification and is one of the smaller 2A schools in the state, Hudson sees this as an exciting challenge and an opportunity to elevate the program to new heights.

With his appointment, Hudson now faces the task of getting to know the current team and staff while building towards the upcoming season. He expressed his gratitude to the community for their support as he, his staff, and players work towards putting a great product on the field this Fall.

Hudson is the grandson of former Buffalo Bills player and longtime Henry County head coach Bill Hudson. He is also the nephew of current Patriots assistant and former NFL player John Hudson.

The season opener for Hudson and the Lions will take place on August 18th, at Waverly. Kickoff is set for 7pm.
