Dover, Tenn.–Another goal was achieved by Sheriff Frankie Gray and his staff with the installation of a new Line-V Body scanner which was placed in the booking area of the Detention Center this week. This new state of the art body scanner will make the Detention Center safer for inmates and Correction Officers.

The body scanner will pick up foreign objects that persons arrested might try to bring into jail with them, including items such as drugs and weapons. The scanner will detect items that have been swallowed or items that have been placed in a body cavity of a person. Inmates who are allowed to go on work release or inmates that leave the facility will go through the body scanner upon return to the Detention Center.

The $130,000 scanner was obtained through a grant from the State of Tennessee which was applied for by Captain Sam Mills and it comes at NO cost to the county.

A body scanner has been a goal of Sheriff Gray and his staff for several years but the Sheriff’s Office has not been able to obtain this machine with the limited budgets. Each Correctional Officer will be trained on how to properly use and read the scanner. Another step in bringing our Sheriff’s Office forward and making the Detention Center safer.
