Dover, Tenn.–Stewart County Sheriff Frankie Gray is asking parents once again to be responsible and to monitor their children when it comes to social media.
The sheriff’s office is awaiting extradition back to Stewart County of a man who met a local juvenile on social media. Devin Gideon of Cape Fair, Mo., was arrested in Texas on the Stewart County charges of aggravated statutory rape, criminal responsibility and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
The incident stems from the accused meeting with the juvenile on SnapChat and the arranging for the juvenile to meet up with him and two other adults. The juvenile was then taken to a motel and drugs and alcohol were involved. When the juvenile was finally located the three adults had already left the motel.
After a lengthy investigation Gideon was identified and was picked up in Texas last week and is awaiting extradition back to Stewart County. Deputies will be making the trip to Texas to bring the suspect back within the next few days.
A woman and a second man involved have not been picked up yet but the investigation is still ongoing and the Sheriff’s Office is now being assisted by the FBI.
