Union City, Tenn.–It pays to do well on the TCAP at Union City Elementary School.
Nearly 90 students received $50 cash each for meeting or exceeding expectations on the Tennessee Comprehensive Assessment Program (TCAP) test, administered last spring to then-third and fourth graders.
A total of $4,450 in all was presented to students in ceremonies at UCES. School administration recognized each student who earned the honor and encouraged all students to do their best on this year’s test, which will be given in April with similar incentives.
“We felt like the kids needed a little extra motivation and we were thrilled to give them this incentive and acknowledge their efforts and improvements,” Union City Director of Schools Wes Kennedy said.
Students in the third and fourth grade last year who showed improvements over the previous year were awarded the money, as were then-fourth graders who increased their ELA score from the year before.
Principal Allison Palmer announced similar incentives and others for this year’s test scores.
