A Western Kentucky University student and angler died following a boat crash during a fishing tournament over the weekend. The accident happened on Lake Murray. The Lake Murray Bassmaster College Series fishing tournament kicked off on Friday with teams from across the country competing throughout the weekend. Lake Murray is in South Carolina.
The Newberry County Coroner identified Jonathan Brian, 21, of Shelbyville, Ky., as having passed away following the collision.
Brian was one of the occupants of a boat involved in the collision January. 25. Brian was pronounced at Prisma Health Richland early Tuesday morning.
Brian was a Western Kentucky student as well as a member of the WKU Bass Fishing Team and was involved in the tournament this past weekend.
