Joy Call, 80, of Paris, Tennessee, formerly of Cottage Grove, died Monday, January 22, 2024, at her residence in Paris.

She was born Sunday, April 11, 1943, in Paris, Tennessee, to the late Eddie Weldon “Pete” Call and the late Mae Dowdy Call.

Joy was a 1961 graduate of Cottage Grove High School.  She continued her education by earning her bachelor’s degree in education from UT Martin, and her master’s degree from Murray State University.

Joy worked many years with the Paris Special School District as a teacher, and retired in 1997 as an administrator, having served as Principal at Atkins Porter, Inman, and W.G. Rhea Schools. She then worked with the Northwest Tennessee Head Start program and later supervised student teachers from UT Martin.

She was a former member of the Business and Professional Women and received several awards.

Joy was named Chamber of Commerce Person of Year in 1987.

She was a member of Cottage Grove Baptist Church since 1956 where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and willingly served in leadership roles throughout the years.

Joy is survived by her sister: Sue Call, of Cottage Grove; several cousins; and her special caregivers.

Arrangements are being handled by Ridgeway Funeral Home, 201 Dunlap Street, Paris, Tennessee.

No visitation is planned.

A graveside service will be held Thursday, January 25, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at Rose Lawn Mausoleum Chapel, 1695 Hwy 69 North, Paris, Tennessee, 38242, with Mike Waddey and Michael Barnhart officiating.

Entombment will follow in Rose Lawn Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
