Marshall County, Ky.–Marshall County, Ky. Sheriff  Matt Hilbrecht said the quick action of deputies led to the lives of a mother and child being saved after their car landed upside down in a creek Tuesday. “They are a credit to law enforcement, this agency, and themselves,” he said.

According to the news release from the sheriff’s office, Deputies Fraley, Hicks, and Madding were the first on the scene when law enforcement was dispatched to Lakeview Church Road in reference to a vehicle upside down in a creek.

When the deputies arrived, they found the vehicle upside down in the creek with the front windows completely submerged in the water. The car was reportedly filling quickly with water and sinking in the mud, according to the sheriff.

The three deputies jumped into the water to free the driver and her young child.

Deputy Fraley broke one of the windows with a window punch and deputies were able to access the driver and child stuck inside the vehicle.

Deputies pulled the child from the vehicle first and handed her off to other emergency services as they arrived to the scene. They pulled the driver out next and took her to an ambulance.

The driver and the child were both taken to Baptist Health Hospital.
