From the Obion County EMA:
There is still a large amount of uncertainty at this time regarding the amount of snow coming towards our area. However, what remains a constant is the extremely low temperature coming with it. There is a large possibly for temperatures of zero and below, along with windchills approaching -15. The extreme cold will be dangerous for anyone outdoors, remember to check on the elderly and your pets.
Make sure to keep your water lines warm or leave your water on with a slow drip to prevent frozen pipes. In the event of frozen pipes, it is nice to have bottled water readily available for your use or need.
In the event that we lose power, make sure you have access to a non electric heat source. Resources such as blankets, jackets, gloves, hats, propane heaters, portable charges for cellphones, hand warmers, etc. are great things to have on hand if this happens. There will be a warming center open at the First Church of God located at 415 South Miles Ave, Union City, TN, 38261. The warming center will open at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, January 12 and will remain open until the weather conditions improve.
It is imperative that if you do not have to get out, PLEASE stay at home. With the below zero temperatures, it is a good possibility that if anything happens to you or your vehicle, hypothermia could set in before anyone could get to you, or find you. Not only do you put yourself in jeopardy in this situation, you are also putting first responders in jeopardy by having to come to your aid.
As the weather approaches our area, I will continue to update so please stay posted, use common sense and remain safe in these conditions.
