Calloway County, Ky.– Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at approximately 4:30 p.m. Calloway County Fire & Rescue was dispatched to a tobacco barn on fire near the 300 block of Christian Lane in the southern part of Calloway County. Dispatch advised the barn owner was the person who called it in and advised he saw flames through the roof.

CCFR had 3 trucks enroute from Station 1 in under 90 seconds from the tone dropping, thanks to the members who were at the station and quick to respond. Upon arrival, fire personnel found the barn to be fully involved with flames showing.

With the fire burning so hot, it was decided to use the deck gun on top of our pumper truck to gain control over the fire before sending firefighters closer with hoses. The fire was brought under control with no other damage to the barns or property around it.

Unfortunately there’s never any saving a tobacco barn after it catches fire, these barns burn so hot while smoking the tobacco that it’s nearly impossible to put it out after it catches the building on fire. Our main concern is keeping it under control and protecting the property around it. Thank you to our members for dedication and hard work!
