Paris, Tenn.–“Scarecrows on the Square” opens this weekend in downtown Paris with a record number 33 entries.

The scarecrows–some scary, some funny and all creative–will be in the process of being set up through Thursday and will be ready for the kickoff of this season’s Noon on the Square on Friday.

The annual event is sponsored by the Downtown Paris Association. DPA Interim Director Jennifer Morris said, “This is our eighth year for this event.  It has added a festive, seasonal look to our beautiful downtown courtsquare.  It is a great opportunity to let our businesses and organization’s creativity take hold and have some fun!”

Scarecrows began appearing on Monday, October 2.  All scarecrows will be in place and ready for viewing on Friday, October 6.

DPA Committee Chair Carly Wheat said, “Scarecrows will be judged after setup.  They will be judged on originality, construction, and presentation.  Cash prizes will be awarded for People’s Choice, Most Original, Best Constructed, Best in Show and Honorable Mention.  The People’s Choice will be judged by the public on the Downtown Paris Association Facebook page.  Winners will be announced via Facebook.  We encourage everyone to visit downtown and stroll around the court square, it is quite entertaining!”
