Union City, Tenn.–The creativity of Union City Elementary School first graders was on full display recently.

Upon completion of a section on the Domain of the Human Body, students were challenged by all their teachers to recreate one of the five body systems in a project to complete the study.

Each member of the seven classes of first graders was allowed to pick a body system and construct a similarity. Students chose from the skeletal system, muscular system, digestive system, circulatory system, and/or nervous system and used their imagination to come up with several impressive examples with no limits on their creativity, according to veteran teacher Jessica Graham.

Some submitted simple drawings and others – with the help of loved ones at home – constructed life-sized skeletons for their project.

One student even made the human brain out of Jello.

During the study, students learned about the fundamental parts and functions of the five body systems, along with care and maintenance.

The projects were on display in the school library for the remainder of the student body to view and enjoy.

“This domain has always been a favorite for our students to study,” Graham said. “We think it’s been a great way to wrap our section on the human body, and I was impressed with their work and creativity.”
