Paris, Tenn.–At a recent meeting of the Paris Housing Board of Adjustments and Appeals, board members voted to move forward with condemnation orders for the structure at 24 Jones Bend Rd. Extended, with demolition planned in the future.

Building Inspector Jesse Skidmore had determined that the property was delapidated, unfit for human habitation and hazardous and that repairs cannot be made on the structure.

At the board meeting, Skidmore presented an update and pictures to the board of the structure. He said he had contacted the owner one year ago regarding the property but no contact in return and that the owner received certified mail on September 2, 2023, with no contact from the owner.

In other business:

–Owners of 213 N. Lake Street were given 30 more days to bring a plan of action to renovate and bring the property up to code. Skidmore will present the plan to the housing board at its next meeting.

–Action on property owned by Georgia Community Investments at 818 Curtis St., was deferred until the next meeting following discussion. The board was updated on the email that was sent regarding a redemption period that
will end in February 2024 due to the property being purchased at a tax sale. City Attorney James Smith said the company is legally required to maintain this property since it is in their name. The board agreed to proceed and notify the investment company with condemnation action and update on condition of the property by mail and email.

–Owners of property at 612 Irvine Street said they will be donating the property to Habitat for Humanity. Habitat has been in contact with the city and the house will be demolished, with a new home built on the property by Habitat.
