Paris, Tenn.–The signs for the upcoming Paris City Cemetery walking tours are in place and all is in readiness for the ‘Tales from the Crypt” which will be held from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, September 30 as part of the Paris/Henry County Bicentennial Finale.
Thirteen of the cemetery’s most famous (and infamous) residents will tell about their lives and why they are remembered in Paris and Henry County history. Life stories will be told about the Porter family, E.W. Grove, Rev. Wyatt and Carolyn Johnson, parents of Mordecai Johnson; Cornelius Peden and more. A presentation about the cemetery’s African American monument also will be given.
Comfortable walking shoes are suggested (uneven ground, stones, and other objects guard our residents). This event is sponsored by the County Cemetery Committee.
Donations of $5 are accepted. Funds will go toward the work of the Cemetery Committee in cleaning cemeteries and grave markers.
Paris City Cemetery is located on Ruff Street in downtown Paris. There is plenty of parking in a nearby lot.
