Union City, Tenn.–Bailey Waggoner ranked among the Top 15 in the TCA Invitational in Jackson Tuesday to earn a medal for the Union City High School girls’ cross country team.
Waggoner placed 15th in a field of 141 runners, covering the 5K race in 24:20.
Teammate Briley McKinney was not far behind, coming in 19th and clocked at 24:39. Rori Howell finished at 34:03.
Rushdon Howell was the best of five UC boys to compete, placing 41st among 227 runners. Howell had a time of 19:59.
Woodrow McKinnis was 59th at 21:06.
Other Tornado finishes and times included Cory Gentry, 87th (22:32), Tabor Hall, 167th (28:21), and Colton Gary, 184th (30:26).
Union City runners will compete next Tuesday in the Best of the West at Obion County Central.
VOLLEYBALL
UC 3, South Fulton 1
The Lady Tornadoes put together back-to-back victories for the second time this season, recording a season sweep of South Fulton after topping Hickman County on Monday.
UC bettered its record to 5-13, winning 25-21, 25-27, 25-16, and then closing out the match with a 28-26 triumph.
Gracelyn Sims had nine kills, while Madie Theobald and Debrionna Jones finished with eight apiece. Sadie Crawford was credited with four kills, and Breyonna Billups recorded five kills and a pair of service aces.
Cricket Washburn helped out with three aces.
Brianna McBride, Clare Atwill, and Billups were active the entire match with multiple digs.
Union City will celebrate Senior Night on Thursday, recognizing its lone senior, Sadie Crawford. The varsity-only match against Fulton City will begin at 6 p.m.
MIDDLE SCHOOL FOOTBALL
Trenton 38, UC 24
The young Tornadoes – with many 6th and 7th graders in the starting lineup – dropped their final game of the season, finishing the year at 1-5.
Caden LeCornu and Ayden Puckett had touchdown runs for UC, with Puckett accounting for a second score on a 38-yard pass from Jack Theobald. Theobald rushed for 87 yards and a pair of two-point conversions, while B.J. Boyd had 35 yards and a conversion on the ground.
Defensively, Boyd recorded a team-best six tackles – three for lost yards. Bryce Burnett and Zack Thomas were in on four stops apiece, while Puckett had three tackles and an interception.
LeCornu came up with a fumble recovery.
