Paris, Tenn.–A Paris man was seriously injured when his electric scotter collided with a car near the entrance to Maplewood Cemetery Monday night.

Darrell Herndon age 55, was airlifted to Skyline Medical Center following the accident.

Paris Police, Paris firefighters and the Henry County Ambulance Service arrived on the scene on Dunlap Street around 6:30 p.m. Monday to find Herndon laying on the pavement.

According to the police report, a car driven by Angela McDonald of Paris was northbound when contact was made with Herndon’s electric scooter, who was also traveling northbound in the roadway in front of the vehicle. She told officers she was trying to pass Herndon because he was swerving in the lane.

The driver drove into the oncoming lane across the double yellow lanes to try to safely pass the scooter when the scotter swerved into the vehicle. He was thrown off the scooter, suffering a serious head injury.

Witnesses said they observed the scooter swerving into the driver’s lane just before the collision. The driver’s right door received minor damage.
