Union City, Tenn.–Union City High School seniors Marlee Theobald and Joseph Lattus are in the conversation for the Heisman High School Scholarship.
Theobald and Lattus checked the many boxes required to be finalists for the prestigious scholarship and were chosen by UCHS administrators to represent the Purple and Gold.
The HHSS – sponsored by Acceptance Insurance – continues a 29-year tradition of honoring high school seniors who’ve accomplished tremendous feats in the classroom, in sports, and, most importantly, within their communities.
The scholarship recognizes and rewards both male and female athletes who are community-minded and use their exceptional talents for the benefit of all.
More than 600,000 esteemed seniors across the country have been awarded hundreds of thousands of dollars in the High School Heisman Scholarship program since its inception.
To be eligible for the scholarship, students had to have at least a weighted ‘B’ grade-point average in their first three years of high school. Candidates were required to participate in at least one sport and also be involved in volunteer/community service or a leadership position within their community.
Theobald has ranked in the Top 10 of her class every year and is a member of the school’s Magnet Program. A standout member of the basketball and softball teams, where she’s been recognized as All-District in both, Marlee is also a member of the Key Club, Beta Club, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
She’s also been heavily involved in the community, including work in the Crosswind Student Ministry, Chimes for Charity, Meals On Wheels, Young Life, and as a leader in Wyldlife.
Theobald – who enjoys reading and spending time with family – has post-secondary education plans of attending Mississippi State University and majoring in biomedical engineering.
Lattus has a glowing resume as well. He’s a member of the school’s prestigious 30+ ACT Club and the Top 10 of his class. He is also a Magnet Program member, a Student Government officer and belongs to the Beta and Key Clubs.
A starter on both the basketball and soccer teams, Joseph has earned all-district and all-region accolades in both sports.
Among his many community duties, he is involved in Obion County Youth Leadership, the Pleasant Hill Baptist Youth Group, and the Crosswind Student Ministry. He’s contributed to the ABC Food Pantry, Meals on Wheels, has participated in Young Life, and traveled on a youth mission trip to Washington, D.C.
Lattus counts spending time with family and friends among his hobbies and has plans to attend college at UT Martin.
State winners of the Heisman Scholarship will be announced on Nov. 3, with national finalists revealed four days later. National winners will be announced on Nov. 30.
