The kids will see McKenzie or Huntingdon from the sky. These free flights are part of the EAA’s Young Eagles program designed to interest young people in aviation.
Prospective Young Eagles are kids 8 through 17. They should show up anytime between 10am and 2pm at the Carroll County Airport at the 2nd big hangar. They can register at 734.eaachapter.org. A signature from a parent or legal guardian is required.
Volunteer pilots of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) have introduced more than two million youth to aviation through free flights since 1992. The local chapter has flown over two thousand smiling kids, sent a few kids to camp, and provided flying scholarships to several teens. Several local teenage EAA members have earned there Pilot’s Certificates. A couple have gone on to become flight instructors and airline pilots. One teen is currently building his own aircraft that he hopes to fly before he graduates high school. It all starts with a Young Eagles flight and a big smile.
