Union City, Tenn.–It was hard to distinguish which group had the bigger smiles – Union City Elementary School students or their grandparents.
Beaming faces, ear-to-ear grins, and heartfelt hugs were plentiful the last couple of days at UCES as the school celebrated Grandparents Day with several campus gatherings.
Elementary School Principal Allison Palmer estimated that “more than 2,000” grandparents showed up in mass to participate in the occasion.
The special guests and children were treated to lemonade and cookies after students sang a couple of songs in a group setting led by UCES music teacher Katie Tohn.
Time was then set aside in the library (Tuesday) and school courtyard (Wednesday) for visits and photo opportunities with the two generations.
