Union City, Tenn.–A world of opportunities awaits Union City High School students upon their graduation.

They got a first-hand look at several of those at the school’s recently held College-Career Fair.

More than 50 post-secondary institutions and businesses set up booths at Marty Sisco Gymnasium Friday, eager and willing to explain their specific brands.

Local colleges and many area companies were among those to market their products. So, too, were a handful of military branches, as well EMS, law enforcement, and the local fire department.

Career Counselor Lisa Carson organized the event with the intention of strengthening the networking system between UCHS, the community, and the workforce.

Carson said the main goal of the gathering was to expose UC High School students to post-secondary opportunities and the immediate surrounding areas. Developing an awareness of the various career paths and showcasing potential job opportunities was also a focus.

“Students were able to engage, first-hand, with desired career fields as they plan their path of study, post-graduation,” Carson stated. “The younger they are when they start thinking about what they might want to do, the more-wide the search becomes about what’s out there for them.

“In my conversations with students after similar events, they said their eyes were opened to many opportunities that they didn’t realize were out there. And our vendors – whether it’s been colleges and universities, or the workforce opportunities, or the military – they’ve been thrilled to be included and showcase their opportunities.”
