The memory of Zack Grooms and Chance Black has been honored with a monument at Maness Swamp.
A ceremony in their honor was held late last week as the monument was unveiled. Speakers included State Rep. Tandy Darby; Cody Black, brother of Chance; and TWRA Executive Director Jason Maxedon. Family and friends gathered for the ceremony.
The monument sits at the entrance of Maness Swamp Refuge near the Weakley and Gibson County lines.
Grooms and Black were shot and killed in January 2021 while duck hunting on Reelfoot Lake. Black was 26 and Grooms was 25.
Black was employed by Final Flight Outfitters which has supported the foundation to honor Black and Grooms’ memory and the families of the young men.
