Brody Fields Continues To Make Waves In Cross Country

Union City, Tenn.–Sixth-grader Brody Fields continued to make waves for the Union City Middle School boys’ cross country team, beating 101 other competitors to win the Martin Invitational Thursday.

Fields, who has finished in the Top 5 in every meet this season so far, ran the 1.5-mile course in 9:22 to claim first place among the large field.

Wrigley Harder was next on the Tornado list at 11:07 to finish at No. 48. Kipton Powers was timed at 11:32, Nash Norsworthy came in at 11:52, and Will D. McKinnis finished at 12:38. Walton Harder was 69th in the jayvee race with a time of 16:45.

Ainsley Beard medaled with an eighth-place finish for the UC girls. Beard was clocked at 11:26. Phoebe Coleman was 23rd (12:53), while Rylan Bondurant finished 28th (13:08).

Union City will next compete at Huntingdon on Sept. 11.

HIGH SCHOOL GOLF

UC boys ease past Peabody

Gavin McGuire was the match medalist with a 42, and teammate Brody Riley posted a 43 to lead Union City (178) to a 27-stroke win over Peabody (205) at Poplar Meadows County Club.

All four Tornado golfers finished with scores in the 40s as Reese Paschall shot 46 and Copeland Chism came in with a 47.

The UC girls had no competition but did get in some work in preparation for future matches.

Mimi Jenkins fired a 38, and Adaline Rice shot 51.

Union City will participate in the 18-hole Patriot Classic Tuesday at Paris Landing.

MIDDLE SCHOOL SOFTBALL

Milan 9, UC 1

The Lady Tornadoes couldn’t overcome a half-dozen errors, falling to 4-6 after winning twice earlier in the week.

Averi Riley and Hadley Smith had UC’s only two hits, with Sophie Palmer scoring the Twisters’ lone run.

Smith was tagged with the pitching loss, though five of Milan’s runs were unearned.

Union City plays at Hillcrest on Tuesday.

MIDDLE SCHOOL FOOTBALL

Dyersburg 30, UC 0

Brayden Marshall threw for 104 yards, but the Tornadoes failed to dent the endzone while falling to 0-2 on the young season.

Marshall completed 9-of-22 passes, hitting Ayden Puckett five times for 54 yards. B.J. Boyd had three receptions for 37 yards, and Giamonie Thomas caught a ball for 13 yards.

Defensively, Ayden Bevis topped the tackle chart with five stops – one for lost yards. John Matt Morgan had four tackles, including one behind the line of scrimmage, and Logan Puckett also had four takedowns.

Marshall came up with a fumble recovery, and Ayden Puckett had an interception.

Union City’s next game is next Thursday at Gibson County.

HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL

Halls 3, UC 1

After the teams split the first two games, the visiting Lady Tigers won 25-16 and 25-18 to drop UC to 1-6.

The Twister girls evened the match at one game apiece after taking Game 2, 25-22. Halls claimed the opener, 25-18.

Addison Carr, Debrionna Jones, and Gracelyn Sims had three kills apiece for Union City. Brianna McBride was good for a trio of service aces.

The Lady Tornado junior varsity squad came out on the short end of their match, losing 25-23 and 25-18.

Rylee Stone and Mary Kate Sinclair had three aces each, while Allysia Davis had a pair of kills and a block. Ca’Lae Ervin was credited with two kills.

Union City will host South Fulton on Tuesday.
