Union City, Tenn.–Mimi Jenkins and Adi Rice combined to shoot 90 as the Union City High School girls’ golf team bested Trinity Christian Academy by eight shots Monday at Poplar Meadows Country Club.
Jenkins carded a 41 to pace the Lady Tornadoes. Rice came in with a 49.
TCA’s Tori Robinson was the match medalist with an even-par 36 total.
Other scores for UC included Allie Vincent (59), Madi Pate (66), and Edie Tanner (70).
The Lions finished 22 shots (166-188) ahead of the Tornado boys.
Gavin McGuire’s 45 headed the Union City team scorecard. Reese Paschall shot 46, Copeland Chism posted a 48, and Brody Riley came in with a 49.
Also playing for the Twisters were Braydon Chism (54), Maddox Dunn (58), Harrison Gray (65), and Jonan Vallee (67).
UC will play at home again on Thursday vs. Peabody.
MIDDLE SCHOOL SOFTBALL
UC 12, Henry Co. 8
Kylee McClure reached base three times and scored two runs, and Maddie Steward crossed the plate three times to help the Lady Tornadoes to their third win of the season.
Taylor Johnson drew a trio of walks and scored twice, while Averi Riley also had three walks.
Sophie Palmer, Hadley Smith, Lyla Burnett, McClure, and Steward each had hits for UC, which rallied from a 5-4 deficit in the third inning.
Smith struck out five and surrendered three runs to earn the pitching win.
Union City will host Gibson County today at 5 p.m.
HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL
Ripley 3, UC 1
Union City went 1-2 in three close games before the host Lady Tigers pulled away in Game 4 for the match victory.
The Lady Tornadoes (1-4) claimed Game 3, 25-23. Ripley triumphed, though, 25-22, 26-24, and 25-10.
Madie Theobald was credited with 23 assists, with teammate Addison Carr accounting for 14 for UC. Debrionna Jones had eight blocks for the Purple and Gold defensively. Brianna McBride served up five aces.
Union City did record a hard-fought victory in the jayvee match, winning 25-17 and 15-13 after falling 25-17 in the opening game.
Cricket Washburn shined with eight service aces and 32 assists. Mary Kate Sinclair contributed a dozen assists, while Allysia Davis was good for four kills, three blocks, and two aces. Rylee Stone had a trio of aces.
Union City plays at Milan this evening before returning home to play Halls on Thursday.
MIDDLE SCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY
This past Saturday, the Tornado boys placed sixth as a team in the Lake Road Invitational.
Brody Fields completed the 1.5-mile course with a time of 9:40 to finish third overall.
Ainsley Beard also medaled for the UC girls, coming in 11th in the field at 11:13.
