Paris, Tenn.–There were smiles all around as the Henry County Fair came to a close Saturday night, with perfect weather, big crowds, high bids on the Junior Livestock and Country Ham Auctions, top-quality entertainment and more.
The Junior Livestock and Country Ham Auctions broke records, with $434,054.25 raised in the Junior Livestock Sale and $76,500 raised in the Country Ham Auction.
A total 117 livestock were auctioned off and the cooler weather drew a large crowd inside the Livestock Barn Thursday night (for results, see our article published August 18).
In the 4-H Ham auction, Allie Paschall won Grand Champion in senior high division and overall Grand Champion.
A large crowd was on hand for the Fair’s finale, the Demolition Derby, which included a Mullet Contest (and plenty of contestants) during one of the breaks.
For the second night in a row, Fair officials gave away $2,000 to cash giveaway winners. Saturday night’s winners were Lori Whalen, Danyelle Whitmore, Salem Carter and Jason Wilson.
Crowds were steady every day, with 150 more exhibits in the Commercial Building than last year; plenty of entries, such as canning, homegrown crops, photography, artwork and more to view. People enjoyed the unique contests, such as the wrench, skillet and rolling pin throwing competitions; along with the Farm Families of the Day who were honored; and crowds were on hand for the live musical entertainment, such as Junior Staggs & Friends who took the stage in the Commercial Building for three nights. And, the annual Pet Show was a real crowd-pleaser, always drawing crowds of contestants and audience members.
Fair Board Treasurer Deneicia Gregson said, “It was wonderful. A wonderful week. Wonderful weather. Couldn’t have asked for better”.
