Union City, Tenn.–Four teachers in the Union City School System were officially awarded tenure today during the UC Schools August board meeting.

Dan Burnham and Teka Kennedy from UCHS, Josh Keown of Union City Middle School, and Halle Lively of UC Elementary School were recognized for earning the status by Director of Teachers and Learning Rene Flood.

The group received verbal congratulations from board chairman Cathy Waggoner and then a round of applause from the rest of the board.

Burnham teaches coding, computer science and is a technology assistant, while Mrs. Kennedy is a health science instructor. Keown teaches eighth grade social studies, and Mrs. Lively is a member of the special education faculty.

The remainder of the brief meeting consisted of Director of Schools Wes Kennedy providing an update on school personnel and detailing a successful first full week of classes in the system.

The board earlier approved the consent of the agenda, which included approving the minutes from last month’s meeting (July 10), the approval of the agenda, and the payment of system bills.

Board member Rev. Curtis McLendon opened the meeting with a heartfelt prayer before those in attendance, which included principals Jacob Cross (UCHS), Lance Morgan (UCMS), and Allison Palmer (UCES), recited the pledge of allegiance.

The Union City Board of Education meets on the second Monday of each month.
