
Cottage Grove, Tenn.–At a productive meeting of the Cottage Grove Legislative Council, a new member was accepted and plans were made for a Food Pantry in the town.
Machelle Operia submitted her resignation, effective immediately due to her work schedule. Mayor Gary McCaig accepted the resignation and declared a vacancy on the board. David Jackson made a motion to appoint a new member at the September 2023 meeting after publicizing the vacancy. Weiher seconded the motion. New candidates were requested to attend the September meeting. A visitor, Dorothy Miller submitted her name for consideration. After more discussion and reading the charter, Jackson rescinded his motion and made a motion to place Miller on the board. Weiher seconded the motion. The council vote was unanimous.
Melody Marion discussed an issue with kudzu growing on a nearby property which has invaded two nearby properties. A letter will be sent to the property owner to maintain the property.
McCaig presented a donation of several framed historical documents to the city from Buddy and June Kemp.
Jackson discussed a food pantry box. The council discussed a city/church sponsorship. Robert Operia volunteered to build the box. The city will reimburse Operia for expenses. It will be installed in the front of the city hall steps with available parking for accessibility.
