New Johnsonville, Tenn.–Wood duck banding is always a great time on the Tennessee National Wildlife Refuge and this year’s event was no exception. Biologist Clayton Ferrell, student interns and volunteers made the night a huge success and the wood ducks really showed up. They reported 449 ducks in the trap, which were mostly recaptures, but they banded 83 new wood ducks. Officials said, “Thanks for all who came out to support the refuge and become part of the Friends of Tennessee National Wildlife Refuge!” The event introduced numerous people to wood ducks and the importance of banding. The next public banding event will be Hummingbird Banding, set for 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, August 12 at the refuge in Springville. (Friends of Refuge photo).
