One In Custody After Three Shot In Mayfield

Mayfield, Ky.–Three people were shot with life-threatening wounds and a suspect is in custody in Mayfield.
On August 3rd at approximately 4:45 am the Mayfield Police Department responded to the Plaza Shopping center and also the Plaza Apartments for a report of a shooting. The Graves County Sheriff’s Office located a female victim at the shopping center who alerted first responders to a vehicle located at the apartments with two male victims located inside.
All three victims were transported to area hospitals with life threatening gunshot wounds. Through investigation, the suspect was identified as 26-year-old James Blakemore of Mayfield. Blakemore was determined to be located in an apartment on Birch Cove in the Plaza Apartments.
With the help of McCracken County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team, Blakemore was apprehended without incident. Blakemore was interviewed at the Police Department. Following the interview Blakemore was arrested, and charged with the following:
Assault 1st Degree, (3 counts)
Assault 2nd Degree, (3 counts)
Possession of Handgun By Convicted Felon
Tampering With Physical Evidence (2 counts)
Strangulation 1st Degree
The Mayfield Police Department was assisted by Graves County Sheriff’s Office, McCracken County Sheriff’s Office, Kentucky State Police, and Mayfield Fire & EMS.
