Union City, Tenn.–Parents of students at Union City Elementary School and UC Middle School won’t be burdened with purchasing school supplies as they prepare their children for the upcoming 2023-24 school year.
Director of Schools Wes Kennedy has announced that the school system will continue its recent trend of providing needed supplies for every student in Pre-K through the 8th grade for the coming year.
Students will need only to provide their own backpacks.
Kennedy – who is entering his seventh year as head man at UC Schools – said he hopes the gesture will ease some of the stress many families encounter when preparing for the beginning of the new school year.
“In many situations, it’s stressful for families to begin a new school year,” he said. “Whether it’s the financial burden or not being able to find certain supplies, we hope this helps alleviates some anxiety many parents and families feel at this time of the year.
“Many of our families have multiple children, and things can add up quickly when you consider everything they will need for an entire year. We’re certainly happy to do this for them for another year and appreciate the help we’ve received from people who’ve made it possible.”
Registration for students in the Union City School System is set for Aug. 3, with the first day of classes for the 2023-24 school year on Aug. 7.
