Hubert Earl Maynard arrived in this world July 24, 1949 as the son of a share cropper and he left this earth June 14, 2023 the son of the King. He grew up in the flatlands and backwaters of Hickman, KY. He spent his youth helping his family, swimming in snake-infested ponds, hunting squirrels in the woods, and getting into all sorts of mischief.
In 1968, he became a U.S. Marine and served his country and his brothers-in-arms in Vietnam. He never stopped being a Marine.
After convincing Andrew Durham to give his daughter’s hand, Hubert married Betty Ann Durham on Feb. 5, 1969. They were married 54 years.
He became a Dad in December of 1969, when son Micheal Earl Maynard was born.
Those first years were very hard. Money was tight and Marriage is tough. One Thursday night in 1976, a nutty neighbor from down the road Marvin Pentecost brought his Pastor Bro. Taylor to their house. Before that night was over, an old vinyl footstool became an old-fashioned altar where Hubert and Betty were saved. (They probably still have that stool.) From then on that Marine found a new purpose in the Lord’s army.
The next year, in January of 1977, their second son, Jason Andrew Maynard was born.
Hubert’s life became all about Jesus and sharing the Gospel that had saved him. He served Union City Baptist Temple in every way possible from the very beginning. He was very proud of packing 60+ kids on a 40 passenger bus to go church every Sunday.
When his Pastor challenged him to go to Bible school he took that as a call from God. He sold his house and quit his job at Goodyear, packed up his family and moved to Springfield, MO. There he attended Baptist Bible College where he earned his diploma in Theology. He used that degree to serve his church, as a leader, music director and Deacon. It also launched him into a career with the South Fulton Public Works Department. He had highest level certification in water and waste water. He served the city of South Fulton for most of his adult life. His main purpose in life was to ensure that every one possible knew how to trust Jesus. He handed out Gospel tracts everywhere he went, mailed them with bill payments and even sent them to his sons with their Christmas gifts every year, just in case.
He loved his Savior. He loved being a husband. He loved being a Dad and a Father-in-law, and he loved being a grandpa.
