Hickman, Ky.–The Hickman Chamber of Commerce has confirmed that the town’s E.W. James and Sons grocery store is closing its doors.
Chamber President Charles Coate said, “This is very sad news for the community. E.W. James and Sons began their business many years ago, with their first store located in West Hickman. Following their opening, the store has long been a cornerstone of the business community. E.W. James and Sons has been a tremendous asset to our business and industries, civic groups, schools and our residents, including many who are unable to travel distances to get their grocery needs. Over the years, we have grown to know many wonderful people who were employed at the store, the many years of the school band suppers on the parking lot, and the community sponsorship and support given by the company. It was hoped the first words of this closure was only a rumor, but now we can only hope that company officials will reconsider the decision. The final day of business will truly be a blow to the City of Hickman.”
