Stewart Co. Sheriff’s Office Awarded $600,000 Grant

stew-co-grant-2

Dover, Tenn.–The Stewart County Sheriff’s Office received notification last week that they will be receiving yet another grant–this one for $600,000.
This grant is from the VCIF(Violent Crimes Intervention Fund) administered by the State of Tennessee. This is a collaborative grant between the Sheriff’s Office and Cumberland City Police.
Working with Emergency Management, Director Clint Mathis will provide both agencies with new car radios as well as portable radios. It will also provide communications and infrastructure equipment.
Sheriff Frankie Gray said, “The aging radio system now in place has been in need of upgrades and this grant will allow for that.”
This is non-matching grant and will not cost the county or Cumberland City any money.
Since January 1st the Sheriff’s Office has received over $1 million in grant money.
This grant was put together by Chief Deputy Dale Ward and former Chief of Police Jason Gillespie. One of the requirements of the grant is that it had to involve two (2) law enforcement agencies.
