By Mike Hutchens, UC Schools Communications Director

Union City, Tenn.–Commencement exercises for the Union City High School Class of 2023 are set for Saturday night at 8 at War Memorial Stadium. The ceremony will be videostreamed live by our radio station Froggy 99.3.

Valedictorian Owen Rodgers will deliver the keynote address, with Salutatorian Kate Schlager also speaking to her classmates and special guests in attendance.

There are 79 graduates to be honored from a class that earned an amazing $4.1M in college scholarships and financial aid for future educational opportunities. Numerous scholarships and honors were announced at Thursday’s awards day.

The remainder of the class’s Top 10 – in addition to Rodgers and Schlager — will receive special recognition.

Included in that group are Khali Brooks, Reagan Durkee, Madeline Underwood, Charleton Wisener, Emma Powell, Jocelyn Ruiz, Alysia Durham, and Amari Bonds.

Class President Emma Powell will welcome guests following the traditional playing of Pomp and Circumstance. After addresses by the salutatorian and valedictorian, UCHS Principal Jacob Cross will present the class with school board members awarding diplomas.

Director of Schools Wes Kennedy will then offer acceptance of the class before the singing of the school alma mater concludes the ceremonies.

Each graduate will be given 24 tickets to present to family members and friends, with 10 of those tickets eligible for use if the event is moved indoors due to inclement weather.

In case of rain, ceremonies will be moved to the Union City Civic Auditorium.

The event will be live-streamed on both the Froggy 99.3 YouTube and Facebook pages as well as the Facebook page of Union City Schools.
