(A news release from the Martin Police about the incident was published earlier today).

Martin, Tenn.–Just prior to the start of the school day, a student reported to Westview High School officials an incident involving a verbal exchange on a school bus that led to school administration and the Martin Police Department launching an investigation.

Law enforcement worked with school leaders to implement a search of the bus and school grounds and determined that the threat was verbal in nature. The student involved faces legal action at the discretion of the Weakley County Juvenile Court. Weakley County Schools will continue to work alongside law enforcement, judicial officials, and will institute all disciplinary measures as provided by Weakley County School Board Policies.

Director of Schools Randy Frazier said, “We would like to thank the Martin Police Department, Westview High School administration, and School Resource Officer Cody Stewart for the quick response and thorough investigation this morning. We also commend the student who reported the issue. We hope that all students, members of our faculty and staff, as well as citizens in our communities will inform their school administration of any and all safety concerns right away.”
