Paris, Tenn.–The Historic Atkins-Porter Neighborhood becomes more kid friendly with each passing day. It seems that the more children experience, the more they learn to care about others and the entire community. The Atkins-Porter Neighborhood’s Spring Litter Pick Up this weekend with Keep Paris-Henry County Beautiful/Henry County Litter Program is a great example.
“Our neighborhood is filled with children,” according to Neighborhood Association President Rachel Terrell. “This is the perfect time for families to spend some quality time together for the betterment of their neighborhood and town. It’s an opportunity for kiddos to see the difference a few hours and a few neighbors can make when working toward a common goal.”
Terrell invites neighbors and friends to the Atkins-Porter Recreation Center parking lot on the corner of Walnut and S. Highland Streets at 9 AM, Saturday, April 15. “You bring your gloves, work shoes/boots and water, and the Keep Paris-HC Beautiful/HC Litter Program will bring grabbers, bags and a trailer,” she said. In addition to picking up trash, neighbors are invited to set out bulk items that can be loaded onto the trailer.
The timing for this event is not random. Springtime in Paris means lots of folks will be in the neighborhood. “Many of us gather for family reunions this time of year,” Terrell said. “Additionally, tourists will be in town for the World’s Biggest Fish Fry and HAPNA’s Annual Mother’s Day Saturday Yard Sale. Lots of these folks drive past our homes or stop to let their pups play at the dog park. A clean neighborhood reflects the pride we have here in our historic corner of Paris,” she says.
In case of inclement weather, please check HAPNA’s Facebook and Instagram for up-to-date information. No rain date is scheduled for this event.
