Seven Lose Lives In McNairy County Storms

Selmer, Tenn.–Seven people are dead in McNairy County after storms, including two tornadoes, tore through the county Friday night, according to McNairy County EMA Director Allen Strickland.

First responders are asking people to stay away from the affected areas while search and cleanup activities are underway.

The Adamsville Police Department issued the following message: “The damage and loss that our community suffered last night was catastrophic. We send our condolences to all of those who were impacted by this event, not just in our community, but across the entire region. Members of the Adamsville Police Department will begin the process of cleaning up the damages and preserving what we can. We encourage everyone in our community that is capable to come together to help our neighbors out in this time of need. If your street or neighborhood needs immediate attention, please post the area in the comments and lets all join together to help one another.”

A third of the county was reportedly impacted.

The three areas primarily affected in the county were north Bethel Springs, north Adamsville and the Rose Creek area, Strickland said. Memphis is 92 miles from Bethel Springs.
