1-24 Collision Claims Lives Of Six Children

UPDATE: At least six children were killed and two adults injured in the early-morning crash on Interstate 24 early Sunday morning. At of 9 a.m., investigators are still at the scene.

The crash was reported just after 2 a.m. in the westbound lanes of Interstate 24 at mile marker 23 in Robertson County.

Robertson County EMS Director Brent Dyer told WKRN-TV Channel 2 in Nashville a total of nine people were involved in the crash. Officials say eight people were in one vehicle and the other vehicle was occupied by one man.

Robertson County Emergency Services said six children were killed in the crash and range in age from one to seventeen-years-old. Officials say all of the children killed in the crash are female and were ejected from the vehicle.

Officials with Robertson County EMS report the man in the other vehicle did not sustain injuries in the crash, WKRN said.

According to WKRN, a total of four ambulances responded to the crash site. A male driver was transported to a local hospital in stable condition. A female was airlifted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in critical condition, according to Robertson County EMS.

A portion of Interstate 24 was shut down for hours and the Robertson County Emergency Medical Services reported early Sunday morning on its Facebook page that the crash has resulted in “multiple fatalities”.

Robertson County Emergency Medical Services officials said, “This is west of the Pleasant View/Springfield exit for Hwy 49. EMS units from Robertson and Cheatham Counties have been on the scene and some remain there now. Alternate routes of travel will have heavier traffic than normal, please use caution and stay safe.”
