HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin golf team took part in an 18-hole stroke play duel match this afternoon against Austin Peay, narrowly falling to the Governors at Bluegrass Yacht and Country Club.

Playing on a par-72 course that is 7,264 yards, the Skyhawks carded a 290 (+2) while Austin Peay managed a 284 (-4). All nine UT Martin golfers were in action as the top four scores were counted from a six-man lineup while three players competed as individuals.

“We competed really well today,” Skyhawk head coach Austin Swafford said. “Our body language was good all day and we grinded a few rounds out. Austin Peay played solid and you have to tip your hat to them. But today was a good step in the right direction for our team.”

Jacob Uehlein led the way for UT Martin today, posting a 71 (-1) on his scorecard. Ethan Ray and Bryson Morrell each shot even-par 72’s while Dax Isbell’s 75 (+3) completed the team scoring. Luke Caldwell (76, +4) and Jonathan Xoinis (78, +6) were the final two members of the Skyhawk lineup today.

A trio of UT Martin representatives competed as individuals, paced by Jackson Twerdahl (73, +1). Garrett Chumley wasn’t too far behind with a final tally of 74 (+2) while Cayden Chambers shot a 79 (+7).

The Skyhawks will now have the next 13 days off before returning to action on April 3-4 at the Ernie Denham Classic hosted by Bellarmine at the Standard Club in Louisville, Ky.
