Union City, Tenn.–Miguel Sanchez scored four goals and added an assist to lead Union City to a 10-1 prep soccer victory over South Fulton Thursday evening.
The Tornadoes dominated from the beginning, tallying six times in the first half in bouncing back from a season-opening loss against Obion Central Tuesday.
Marcos Landeros recorded a hat trick with three goals and also was credited with an assist for UC.
Silverio Acevedo had a goal and two assists, Gavin Morgan found the net, and Joseph Lattus did the same for the Tornadoes, who peppered SF with 17 shots on goal. Carter Wilson had an assist for the victors, and Jayce Rogers had two saves in goal for the Twisters.
With his four-goal outing, Sanchez moved into a tie for second on the all-time list of goal scorers in UCHS program history.
Union City will be back in action Tuesday night at 6 at home vs. Huntingdon.
HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL
UC 8, Greenfield 2
Skylar Hall’s RBI single in the fourth scored Kyler Southerland to break a 2-all tie and Union City put up five insurance runs in the fifth to improve to 3-0.
Logan Dawkins, Landon Hauhe and Will Ragsdale all had run-scoring singles in the fifth, while Luke Joslin doubled to drive in a tally.
The Tornadoes scored a pair of unearned runs in the third inning.
Copeland Chism and Southerland cross the plate twice each, and Ragsdale was credited with a pair of ribbies. Dawkins went 2-for-3 and was the only UC player with multiple hits.
Ragsdale struck out eight in a four-inning relief stint to get the pitching win. Dawkins had five punchouts in three frames as the starter.
Union City is next scheduled to play at Rockabillies Stadium in Jackson against Jackson Christian School Monday.
HIGH SCHOOL TRACK
Bonds, Craig shine at Huntingdon
Both Union City teams had a handful of strong performances in a season-opening meet at Huntingdon that was shortened due to rain.
The Tornado girls were running second and the boys first when the event was called with more that half of the running events not completed.
Katana Bonds won the 100 meters, the triple jump and set a program record in the long jump with a leap of 17’2” that netted her a third first-place showing. Nakyah Yarbrough was second in the 100 and Indeya Hogsett placed third.
Debrionna Jones came in second in the discus and was third in the shot put.
Kolby Craig paced the Tornado boys with first-place efforts in the long jump and triple jump. Kameron Shade won the 100 meters and Keaten Brown was second in both the shot put and the discus. Kelan Roberson came in third in the shot.
Union City will host a 10-team meet next Wednesday at Dave Shatz Track.
HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL
Ripley 10, UC 0
A six-run Ripley first inning doomed the Lady Tornadoes.
Union City’s offense was limited to three singles – by Emmaline Qualls, Addison Carr and Clare Atwill.
Carr absorbed the pitching loss.
UC (1-2) will play at Gibson County Monday.

Top-flight Kentucky competition McCracken County was too tough Thursday for the two Tornado programs.
The girls’ doubles team of Shelby Bondurant and Molly Kizer put up a good fight before falling 8-4, but UC won just five games in five singles matches.
The Twister boys were blanked in the Top 4 singles matches.
Union City will play again next Thursday at home vs. Trinity Christian Academy.
