DANBURY, Conn. – For the second straight week, a University of Tennessee at Martin rider has claimed Eastern College Athletic Conference Rider of the Week accolades. Today, the league announced that Skyhawk senior Julia Gilman earned that award in fences.
Gilman has now won an ECAC Rider of the Week honor four times in 2022-23, also being recognized by the league on Nov. 22 (flat) and on Jan. 31 (fences and flat). The Barrington, Ill. native was also named ECAC Rider of the Month in fences for October 2022.
In Gilman’ lone appearance of the week, she posted 84 points on the way to MOP accolades in fences against Bridgewater on March 10. She won her head-to-head matchup by 17 points aboard Dubay.
On the season, Gilman tops UT Martin with nine fences victories (in 12 chances) and is tied for the team lead with two MOP’s. She is responsible for a 79.2 scoring average. She is also a key contributor in flat, posting a team-best 81.3 scoring average, five wins and one MOP in that event.
Ranked No. 10 nationally, the Skyhawks now shift their attention to the ECAC Championship, which will take place on March 25-27 in Brookings, SD.
