
Camden, Tenn.–Ron Lane, whose broadcast career spanned over 60 years at the microphone, died Sunday morning in at Henry County Medical Center in Paris. He also was a former mayor of Big Sandy. He died after a lengthy illness at the age of 81.
Lane was a former General Manager at WRJB/WFWL in Camden and was an integral part of the news and sports scenes in the area for six decades.
Bobby “Flash” Melton, who worked alongside Lane for many years, said Lane had ownership of stations in other markets over the years and was active in the community.
Melton said, “He was a professional in every sense of the word who greatly cared about his community and its people. Ron did hundreds of radio broadcasts in the studios as well as remotes and was always willing to give his time and talents to any charitable cause that asked.”
Melton noted that Lane served on several civic boards and organizations and served several years as Big Sandy Mayor. He held positions with the First United Methodist Church in Big Sandy.
Melton said, “He was the ‘Best of the Best’ and all of Benton County is a better place because of Ron Lane. He was and will always be “The Voice of the Magic Valley.”
