Junior Duck Stamp Contest Winners Announced

Henry County had so many entries in the Jr Duck Stamp (JDS) contest, that once again we held a special JDS Henry County judging yesterday.  A total of 1,200 entries were submitted from Kindergarten through 12th grade from Henry County and the winners are:
Savannah Miller, age 16 won Best of Show in the Henry County Junior Duck Stamp contest with her colored pencil drawing of a ruddy duck.  Savannah’s art teacher is Shanee’ DeHay.
Alyssa Martin, age 16 was the Conservation Message winner in the Henry County JDS competition with the message:  “Conservation is like the upkeep of a painting. Without it, it dulls and fades until it is gone.”
Jean Howe, Ranger at the Tennessee National Wildlife Refuge said, “This Jr Duck Stamp is a nationwide program and I can safely say that no other county in the NATION submits more artwork to this program than Henry County.  We have talented kids AND art teachers!”
Entries were received from the following schools and teachers:
Henry Elementary, art teacher Valarie Godina
Harrelson Elementary, art teacher Traci Shankle
Lakewood Elementary, art teacher Brandi Besand and STEM teacher Leigh Anne Durham
E. W Grove School, art teachers Shanee’ DeHay and Jessica Hart
Henry County High School, art teachers Shanee’ DeHay and Jessica Hart
All 100 winners in the Henry County JDS competition will advance to the Tennessee state Jr. Duck Stamp contest that will be held March 23rd at Reelfoot National Wildlife Refuge.

Felicia Bates, HC Fine Arts Curriculum and Instruction Supervisor
