Kizer, Palmer To Participate In RisingStar Summit

Union City, Tenn.–Union City High School juniors Molly Kizer and Ella Palmer will participate in the 12th annual Vaughn RisingStar Youth Leadership Summit on the campus of the University of Tennessee at Martin Thursday and Friday.

The two-day conference is designed specifically for high school juniors in West Tennessee and is a byproduct of the WestStar Leadership program. The mission of the RisingStar Summit is to give student leaders across the area a chance to develop leadership skills and learn the importance of community involvement.

Students from several West Tennessee counties have been chosen to participate, including Weakley, Lake, Dyer, Gibson, Lauderdale, Crockett, Tipton, Haywood, Shelby, and Fayette.

Customized individual campus tours will be part of the summit, with several guest speakers also on the agenda. Among those scheduled to address the group are interim UTM Chancellor Dr. Phil Cavalier and Vice-Chancellor Charley Deal.

Specialty tours include nursing, agriculture, sports management, criminal justice, and computer science. There are also available tours that focus on engineering, art/theatre, communications, and fashion/nutrition/child & family.

UT Martin faculty members will conduct the specialty tours.

Cary Vaughn, CEO of Love Worth Finding Ministries of Memphis, is set to speak on motivational leadership as part of the Friday agenda. Leadership and team building exercises will be coordinated by David Belote of UT Martin’s Office of Student Engagement and Gina McClure, Assistant Vice Chancellor for Residential and Student Life at UTM.

Students will receive scholarship information before their adjournment on Friday.adjournment on Friday.
