Henry County Leaders Chosen For WestStar Leadership

MARTIN, Tenn. – Josh Frey, Sam Hutson and Michael Sargent, all of Henry County, were selected to participate in the University of Tennessee at Martin’s WestStar Leadership Program Class of 2023. All three participants are graduates of Leadership Henry County. 

Frey is the sheriff of Henry County and serves on the 24th Judicial Drug Task Force. He is also on the SAVIN Committee with the Tennessee Sheriff’s Association. Frey is a past recipient of the Officer of the Year award from the Paris Police Department. 

“Participating in WestStar will increase my knowledge of West Tennessee and will teach me valuable information from different leadership styles,” said Frey. 

Hutson is the president of Crove Media and Crove Food Company. He served on the Paris Rotary Club and is a recipient of the Paris-Henry County Chamber of Commerce Young Professional of the Year Award. 

“I look forward to this program giving me the opportunity to become a better leader for West Tennessee and continue to grow in my community,” said Hutson. 

Sargent is the owner of Michael Sargent State Farm, and he serves on the boards of the Paris-Henry County Chamber of Commerce and the Henry County Medical Center Foundation. He is a recipient of the Best Insurance Company in Henry County and has been nominated for Best Young Entrepreneur. 

“WestStar will help further my understanding of issues in West Tennessee and the progress being made to help industries and people of our state,” said Sargent. 

The WestStar Leadership Program was founded at UT Martin in 1989 and is the state’s oldest and largest regional leadership program. The program equips regional leaders with new skills and knowledge designed to impact the education, economic and social development of West Tennessee. The program also provides members with a growing network of community-minded people committed to serving the area.
