Union City, Tenn.–Kindergarteners at Union City Elementary School spread an abundance of Valentine’s Day love Tuesday to a group that couldn’t have been more appreciative.

Smiling residents at Magnolia Place received homemade personalized cards to celebrate the day from UCES students, who additionally handed out hugs and smiles to the 30 residents at the local assisted living facility.

The gesture was part of a kindergarten project led by teacher Susan Sullivan, who said: “We thought it was a great idea to show empathy, love, and understanding on Valentine’s Day.

“We often talk to our students about being good citizens and good people. This exercise coincided with them learning to write sentences, and I believe they also learned about kindness and compassion.”

All kindergarten students participated in the exercise, with the 40-plus recipients of the Top Tornado Award for the first two nine-week grading periods delivering the cards.

Not surprisingly, residents were thrilled with the visit and gesture.

“They love children – it really livens them up when young people visit,” smiled MP Activities Director Renea Wilson, who greeted the UC Schools bunch along with top administrator Cindy Cox.

The residents were to later enjoy a Valentine’s Day party with many freshly-prepared snacks and treats.
