Union City, Tenn.–The District 12-AA Tournament brackets are now officially set.
Milan’s 38-37 boys’ victory tonight gave the Bulldogs the regular season championship and host rights to the postseason event.
Third-seeded Union City (9-17) will face No. 2 Gibson County (17-8) in the second of two semifinals next Friday night at 7:30 at MHS. Both teams are already assured of a spot in the regional tourney – regardless of the outcome of their third meeting this season.
The two teams split two earlier games, both winning at home. GC was victorious 64-27 on Jan. 20, while UC posted a 56-46 triumph over the Pioneers this past Tuesday.
Host Milan (18-7) will face the winner of the Westview-Huntingdon play-in game in the first semifinal next Friday. The Chargers (8-18) and Mustangs (10-15) square off in a No. 4 vs. 5 battle Tuesday night at Martin.
The boys’ consolation and championship games are set for Monday, Feb. 20, at 6 and 7:30 p.m.
The District 12-AA girls’ bracket was already official, with top-ranked and reigning state champion Westview set to host the semifinals and finals.
Union City (8-18) and Milan (5-18) are set for a play-in matchup Monday night, with the winner of that game between the fourth and fifth seeds moving on to play Westview (25-0) next Thursday at 6 p.m. in the first of two semifinals.
UC easily handled the Lady Bulldogs – by 29 and 32 points – in their regular season meetings.
The second semi will pit No. 2 and fifth-ranked Gibson County (22-7) against No. 8 and third-seed Huntingdon (22-5) at 7:30 p.m. next Thursday.
The consolation and championship of the girls’ tournament are scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 18 at 6 and 7:30.
